Willand - Now and Then

The Parish of Willand, is situated in the countryside of Mid Devon, approximately 7 miles east of Tiverton. The village straddles the B3181 (the old A38) and is easily accessed from all local areas as well as either Exit 27 or 28 of the M5.

We are on the edge of the picturesque Blackdown Hills and have easy access to Exeter, Taunton, Tiverton and North Devon. Both Exmoor and Dartmoor are less than a one hour drive away

We have a large number of organisations in the village, covering a wide range of activities including, football, tennis, history, art, youth club and a number of social groups.

On this web site we bring together the work of our active Parish Council, the village organisations and local businesses. Please browse our site and find out more.....

Update on 2 Sisters

Councillor Bob Evans and some residents have been persistent in approaches to the Environment Agency over the smells allegedly coming from 2 Sisters site. What follows is a precis of a reply received from the EA Regulatory Team Leader.

"I can confirm that we have determined operations at the 2 Sisters site are not in compliance with their Environmental Permit with respect to odour. We rate non-compliance at the sites we regulate using a scoring system. 2 Sisters have been scored a CCS2 for failing to comply with the odour condition in their Environment Permit and having a significant impact on the local community.

To address these very serious issues we’ve required the site to undertake a series of steps to address the odour non-compliances. The site has produced an Action Plan with details of a number of improvements they will be making. All of these actions have deadlines and we will closely monitor their progress. There are likely to be some actions which will require significant investment and work.

We will continue to keep pressure on the site and their senior managers to get a grip on these issues which are causing such distress to the local community.

I appreciate how frustrating and upsetting this issue is but assure you we are using all the regulatory tools available to us to get the site to resolve this issue. I would urge you to report your concerns directly with 2 Sisters as well as us, as there are often immediate steps they can take to rectify issues.”

Please continue to report the smells and not leave it to someone else to do. The more reports the better the chance to get the matter resolved.
